I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had adult patients tell me they have their mother’s or their father’s feet. At other times, while treating a child, the parent becomes curious about their foot issues that they had previously ignored.
Foot type is inherited, so it’s not surprising to see family members with the same foot type and associated problems.
We treat multiple generations of families who have passed down flat arches, high arches and everything in between. Potential problems include lower back pain, knee pain, ankle instability, tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, neuroma and bunions just to name a few.
Foot and ankle evaluation while standing, sitting and walking are critical to proper diagnosis and treatment. Custom orthotics are the gold standard for correcting faulty foot mechanics, increasing stability and decreasing pain.
For me personally, I was able to identify early on that I had inherited my mother’s foot type. I was aware of the potential issues I was up against and because of that I have always been conscious of properly supporting my feet. As a result, I have been able to keep common complications with my foot type at bay.
My hope is to raise awareness that foot pain at any age is not normal. We are here to help and offer treatment and prevention solutions.
